Bush Twins Greet The RNC
Tall Poppy Rule #5: Just because you're THINKING it, doesn't mean you have to SAY it.
Theodore Roosevelt once said of his famous daughter Alice: "I can run the country or I can control Alice, but I can't do both". I wonder if the Bush family was thinking similar thoughts as the Bush Twins' introduced their father during last night's Republican National Convention. For most spectators (present company included), listening to Jenna and Barbara roast their family (and themselves) was awkward...and painful...and, well, just plain wrong. At one point, several minutes into their "speech", Jenna said:
You know all those times when you're growing up and your parents embarrass
you? Well, this is payback time on live TV.
Then, they carried on for several more minutes making fun of their parents and their grandmother, Barbara. Why were they allowed to stand in front of the nation and act like petulent elementary school children on such an important occasion? Their speech was rehearsed and teleprompted, which means that it was read and viewed by lots of "brains" who knew better. Besides, the girls are college graduates, for goodness sake. They should have known better, too.
I was so impressed with the Kerry girls at the DNC, but as conservative pundit Bob Novak said today, the twins "get an "F" for Flunked" and "they certainly weren't helpful". The girls claimed in a recent magazine article that they didn't really have a "disciplinarian" growing up because they "didn't really need one" and, unfortunately, those roots are showing.
On a positive note, I really liked Barbara's top....
